Terriers Lost to Ground

Post by Rescue Remedies » Thu Jun 05, 2014 3:06 pm

Many terriers go missing whilst out on walks because they take off and go down a hole after rabbit / fox / badger. Hence the advice to keep a pet working terrier mix on a long line when out. Many dogs are never found and die underground because the owners don't consider this possibility, or don't know what to do, or act too late.

There is a club called the Fell & Moorland Working Terrier Club who have a network of members nationally who are experienced at locating & rescuing terriers who have "gone to ground". These people are volunteers & do not charge - they are committed to saving the life of dogs who are just responding to their instinct.

If you do lose a terrier & suspect it is underground please consider contacting them. DogLost often refer owners of missing dogs to them.

This link shows some of the press cuttings from their rescues. Their contact details can be found on the left hand menu.
