Bayley's Thread below:
Current Status: Homed
Bayley's Story: Bayley was found stray repeatedly. He was owned by a family who kept him in small crate separate from his Staffie partner, Paige (now homed) for eight hours a day, whilst the family was at work. This wasn't suiting the dogs or the family. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving their lives. Bayley is neutered, chipped and vaccinated. Bayley and Paige came to us on a Bank Holiday Monday; the dog warden gave up her day off to see them to safety. We homed Bayley in September 2017, but sadly, he was returned to us in November 2018 due to a new baby in his home. Bayley coped very well with the baby, but his owner didn't have time to give Bayley the attention he deserves.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, please complete our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. It is always the first step in our rehoming process. Upon application, you must be ready to take in your new dog within seven days. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £175. This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Bayley's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal a different picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original Referral information:
15.07.17: Hi Lyn We have dealt with these two dogs today, as they were out straying from the early morning. The white one is an unneutered female and the brindle one is an entire male. The owners reluctantly collected the dogs back from us today, and they want the dogs rehomed, as they both work and have admitted the dogs are kept in separate small crates for 8 hours or more a day. I have advised them to contact Rescue Centres. I have received several complaints from residents in the flats where the dogs are kept, regarding the mistreatment of the dogs. She said she reported this to the R.S.P.C.A. She also confirms the dogs don’t get walked. My usual question will be, any chance a miracle has occurred and you have spaces to take these poor souls? I can’t begin to imagine what being cooped up in a crate for hours on end feels like? They are 8 years old.
Thanks Lyn xx Px Dog Warden

What a couple of sweethearts these two are! Paige is the confident one, straight up for a cuddle and a fuss. Bayley is a little less confident and looks to Paige ( or to us humans) for reassurance first but is then very friendly and cuddly. It was a joy walking with the duo and lovely to watch the constant communication between them. Where the path was narrow Paige liked to walk in front but Bayley liked to be very close to her and if he was behind she kept checking he was still there and gave him reassuring looks. Adorable!

Bayley, what a lovely boy he is......I walked him for the first time today. Very easy to harness and walked well through the kennel block. Not at all interested in the dogs either side of him. We had a get to know you cuddle, before we set off (he loves sausages!). He does like to 'lead play' and a few minutes into our walk (quite unexpectedly, after we got tangled and I dropped one of the leads) he did manage to get hold of it and wouldn't give it back. Once I had taken control of the lead he walked extremely well and was very interested in the grass and smells around him. He appears to be quite well trained and sat at the roadside, gives a lovely sit, paw, knows wait and takes his treats very gently. He is very affectionate, I had some lovely staffie kisses. Beautiful Bayley!

Met Hannah and Bayley for a walk on Wimbledon Common this afternoon.

He clearly is already in love with Hannah - he checks back with her every 10 seconds 'you still there?'

The feeling is mutual.

He has decided he doesn't rag leads anymore. He did it once. And when told to drop because it was a really expensive extender he complied and didn't do it again.

He has also go two new girlfriends now - sorry Paige!!

I asked Hannah if I could update this for her on how Bailey is doing.

He has had quite a nine months since September.

Bayley as it turns out was on a break out of rescue mission when he met Hannah that day. We tested him with my dogs as Hannah really needed a dog who could get along with other dogs dog. She spends time at her foster parents who have a big German Shepherd and walked and lived in high dog density areas, as well as obviously spending time with me.

Bayley is only good with Rhianna and Tabitha. He pretended that day to have good dog skills, he doesn't at all. He actively doesnt like other dogs. He's a chomper. However, he has made an exception for Rhianna and Tabitha and the three of them actually really like each other. They walk beautifully, they sleep together when I took care of him when Hannah visited her parents as they live in Swindon. In fact if anything I have to protect him from them, as they will push him off the sofa if they want that spot, take his tennis ball on a walk and steal his supper unless we are there to protect him. But this perfect behaviour is limited to ONLY Rhianna and Tabitha. He can be a little naughty...... We have no idea why - this wasnt a gentle intro, or to do with anything other than Bayley decided to be friends with these two, and only these two.

Since September, Bayley has had an awful lot of new experiences. He is not a brave dog. When he came to live with Hannah so many experiences were overwhelming and he would tuck his tail and shake. Including things which you would think would be something a dog would love - like a walk in Richmond Park. The amount of new sights and smells overwhelmed him - his feet got incredibly sore after not walking for long. The world was obviously very very new to him. He seemed to have never really been walked, and for him to stop getting sore feet took weeks.

We have been to the beach, and holidays to the New Forest, he has been to weekly training classes, and twice weekly socialisation walks with a behaviourist, he walked every weekend with Hannah and I and his two friends Rhianna and Tabitha. Hes great with people though, the sweetest cuddliest little dog.

In December Bayley's world changed again. Hannah found out she was pregnant. Understandably Hannah wasnt sure she could cope with him now she was going to have a baby. Hannah has put in an incredible amount of work with him, and their relationship is amazing. Hannahs baby is due in September and he has settled back down.

The two of them have now moved to Swindon. Hannah has bought a lovely house with a lovely big garden. She is also working from home three days a week and so the amount of time he gets to spend with her has increased and he is doing brilliantly. They both are.

In September he will meet his new sister - Darcey. He'll come and stay with Rhianna, Tabs and I for a week or two depending on how Hannah is feeling and when she will be ready to regularly walk again. He's so comfortable here he wont mind and anyway I give him more treats than Hannah - Im food lady.

We havent seen Hannah and Bayley for a couple of weeks since they have moved to Swindon. However, on Friday we are staying in a cottage on Saunton Sands for 7 days with the three dogs. Its right on the beach, and in the mornings and evening is deserted so the dogs can run together with no one around. We cant wait.

These are photos of the last 9 months. He is no longer the skinny little dog that he was now so much of his nervous energy has gone.

I wont say much on this, aside from how sad I feel about Bayley coming back.

He is such a fantastic little dog. A really sensitive soul. I visited him a couple of weeks ago and he was so pleased to see me and his best friends Rhianna and Tabs that he did zoomies when he saw us.

Bayley is a cutie - he cuddles and curls up small. As I said hes a sensitive soul but has a really lovely nature.

He loves his toys, and holds his kong when he gets worried. Its like his security blanket.

When we visited Rhianna played with his kong, and he let her watching. As soon as she had finished he went and got it and hid it upstairs. He didnt really want to share, but he was too polite to confront her.

I thought that I would share some more pics of Bayley on holiday at Saunton sands and snuggling on the sofa with my two.

Good luck Bayley - you deserve a really great life.
