Steve needs a supportive family to offer time and tolerance to allow their new dog to settle. NB Our Rescue asks owners to maintain dogs on lead in public spaces and manage encounters, as dog law changes place dog's lives at greater risk.
Known background: Steve was bought as a puppy to join a working family with a baby and 3 children up to the age of 15 yrs. The family bought a Rottie bitch pup 5 months later and the 2 puppies grew up together until being large dogs proved too much for the family. They were crated all day when the parents were at work (8-6) The teenager did walk both when he came home from work but Steve's nerves were such he started to bark at some children and the son refused to walk him again. B. took Steve in May to join his girlfriend and their pug. The Rottie was given away by the original family. After splitting with his girlfriend B. had just Steve but his landlady met Steve and said B. had a week to get rid of him. A friend of the Rescue heard of the plight as no one was coming forwards as Steve shows nerves first meeting people. We stepped forwards to offer a Rescue place & to take Steve 21st Aug 16 and save his life.

Re: Steve GSD x Boxer DofB 23.09.14 Chessington Kenns
Steve's mum was a white Boxer and his dad was a German Shepherd. His coat comes through from his Boxer genetics but his shape, tail, and temperament is very Shepherd. Steve has already come a long way in a week. He is now neutered and under going vaccination. Soft temperament

Yesterday, new walker Billie and I took Steve out for a walk - his first walk since coming to Chessington kennels. He was very nervous and scared when he first came out so we decided to take him on a quieter route with Frank (W) the Staffie to lead the way. It's apparent that Steve is still trying to work out what's happening in his life and what going out on a walk on a lead is all about.
We weren't sure we would go very far, but he surprised us! With Billie handling Steve on the lead, Steve soon calmed into himself and you could see he was starting to enjoy the walk. He seemed comforted by having another dog nearby but also keen to start taking in the smells along the route.
When we got back to the kennels, we stopped and sat under the apple trees near the kennels, as it was busy in the enclosure with other dogs. Although still slightly nervous, you could see Steve was happy to be relaxing under the tree with Billie and ready to receive cuddles.
Steve reminded me so much of Dusty (now adopted) and Eli (adopted by Billie) - a sweet sensitive boy who just needs some time and love to relax into himself and show us his full personality.

Steve and I had a lovely walk yesterday, he seems to have settled a bit in the kennels as he didn't seem that nervous, he just wanted to explore and sniff everything. He's got a lot of energy and was very excited to be out so was strong on the lead at times but most of the time he walked nicely. During our walk he met an off lead German Shepherd, he was very friendly and I could see they both wanted to play but unfortunately he couldn't because he was on his lead.

I met this gorgeous boy for the first time today. Steve was very pleased to see me and was very excited to find himself going out for a walk. No issues walking through the kennel block. A very playful boy, strong at times but manageable. Just like a big puppy in many ways! He is getting used to his new surroundings and different walkers. Everything is new to him and it is very exciting. Steve is such a friendly boy and seems to love everybody. We met Buttons, Sonny and Max while we were out walking. Steve just wanted to play with them. He enjoyed walking through the woods with so much to explore. A real sweetheart xx
