Please share photos of our dogs on Twitter

Post by katz » Mon Jun 09, 2014 8:30 pm

I look after the Rescue Remedies and Staffie Rescue Twitter accounts. It would be great if you are on Twitter if you could share photos of our current and re-homed dogs or positive stories about them on these accounts so that I can retweet them. I try my best to think of interesting, fun and informative tweets but the more tweets we do as a group the bigger audience we reach for our dogs!

These are the two accounts you can follow and tweet to on Twitter:

https://twitter.com/rescueremedies

https://twitter.com/Staffierescue

Not sure who looks after the Terrier Rescue Twitter account but you can follow that here:

https://twitter.com/terrierrescue

Many thanks in advance! :thanks.gif:

Hello, another request from me!

We currently have 13,160 followers on Twitter for the Staffie Rescue account and 7,7076 on the Rescue Remedies account. Some of these followers have tens of thousands of followers and the regularly retweet (RT) us! There is also a Terrier Rescue Twitter account which I don't manage.

We have had one homing through Twitter that I know of but we should have many more. One internet based dog rescue in the North West has homed over 100 dogs via Twitter - we surely could match that. The reason they are successful is because they have a lot of active supporters who tweet on their behalf about their dogs regularly.

I try to manage at least two tweets a day for each account, more if possible, plus respond to new followers, retweeters and questions that arise. Unfortunately (or fortunately!) I start a new job on the 5 January and I will be able to do less tweeting. If all of you signed up to Twitter and tweeted about the dogs you walk or foster - most importantly with a photo - imagine what we could do?

Here is a guide on how to set up a Twitterhttp://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Twitter-Account

You will need to a tool to shorten web links (ideally you should include a link to the dogs thread on your tweet) You can use Google Shortener which you can get from here: https://goo.gl/ or Bitly which you can get from here https://bitly.com/

You will also need to resize photos to 640 X 480 px - I use Microsoft Office to do this easily but there are other tools.

If you are serious about rehoming our dogs as quickly as possible please consider joining Twitter and tweet about our dogs and the Rescue. It will save lives and can also attract walkers, fosterers and donations!

Any questions please just ask and I will do my best to help. I was a newbie once too

Thank you.

Maria x

We now have over 14,000 followers on the Staffie Rescue Twitter account - woohoo! :smiley-gen013.gif:

That means if you post about one of our dogs on Twitter and tag @Staffierescue and I retweet it the post will go to over 14,000 people, come on it must be worth your time!

Time to see if I can remember my account details for Twitter which I set up a couple of years ago...

Hi Maria, I really struggle with twitter, as I'm never sure whether I should include @rescueremedies or not, whether I should add any hashtags. Can you post a couple of sample tweets that I could use as a template for sharing dogs. I assume I should ad the dog's froum link and a photo?

I found after @rescueremedies and the link to Dixie's forum there wasn't much space for anything else. Next time I might not put a link to her forum, and add photos and I nicer comment. Good idea?

not sure Katz/maria is the expert, but I assume that as with all our adverts, we MUST have a link to their forum thread.

When posting about individual dogs I always put a link to their thread - use the tools mentioned previously to shorten the links. It is very much a challenge to stick to the 140 character limit but it is worth it, believe me :-)

Thank you for your support x
