Monty's Story: Monty was found tied up outside a shop; he went into a council pound and wasn't claimed. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Monty is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Monty is in boarding kennels near Gatwick awaiting his new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, please complete our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. It is always the first step in our rehoming process. Upon application, you must be ready to take in your new dog within seven days. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £175. This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Monty's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal a different picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original Referral information:
06.11.17: Monty has been at the pound for 3 weeks now, found as a stray, pound say lab cross, they say he is number 1 to be put to sleep on the list Wednesday 8.11.17, however I have said we have a potential rescue from you so are holding:
"Hello, If he could be moved that would be really helpful. He's not neutered & is chipped. He came into us via a member of the public saying he was tied up outside a chip shop for 2 days however we believe she was a friend or relative of the owner on the microchip. Hope this helps! Cx"

I was delighted to meet Monty this morning. He was a little nervous of me when I entered his kennel but as I let him sniff me and the harness, he was trusting enough to let me gently slip his harness on. He was a little nervous and skittish while we waited in the car park for Louise and Timmy Tim but I think he was just wondering where on earth he was and what was going on. He was pleased to see Timmy and initially pulled to get to him as we walked behind but he soon settled beautifully and walked with a loose lead. Louise and I were enjoying watching the polite and respectful communication that was going on between Timmy Tim and Monty. Timmy is a very calm boy with great dog skills and Monty was very relaxed in his company.

Monty has bouncy, puppy energy and enthusiasm but he is very connected on his walk and listens and responds beautifully. He will be a dream to teach and build a close bond with. I had a lovely walk with him this morning. Monty bounded and jumped over the wet and muddy bits and skirted around the puddles- seems like he would rather not get his paws wet. He walked easily on the lead, keeping close to me but using the length of the lead to sniff and investigate around him. He is joyful and delightful to be around. Back in his kennel he declined a treat but wanted cuddles instead. xx

Monty was showing off his good dog skills again today walking with super cool Timmy Tim. Monty is great with calm dogs but he can get worried if dogs bark at him and he will get agitated and bark back rather loudly. Bless him, he struggled a bit when we had to pass RR dogs Shane and Maisie out on their walk who did have rather a lot to say to him. He did move on easily though and they were quickly forgotten and he was back to keeping up and sniffing with his mate Timmy Tim. Timmy is very patient with him and he needs this socialisation and teaching from a mature and experienced dog to help him on his journey from adolescence to become the wonderful friendly, socially skilled mature dog he will be.

Monty is a young boy and has bags of energy so after a walk we headed to the paddock where Monty could run around and use some of that energy. He was so engaged with me, enjoying retrieving tennis balls and just running around together. Monty is great fun to be with. Absolutely love this boy. love4.gif

Met Monty for the first time today. He was very timid on meeting him and I had to spend quite some time gaining his trust before I could harness him. He is very sweet natured but quite nervous and needs a very gentle approach. We had a good walk around the common today but he was still nervous at any noises. I hope as he gets to know and trust me we will be able to play together like he has been doing with Anne, I can't wait as he is a real sweetie! love4.gif

Monty was a little star this morning. When he see's me he gets excited and calls me from his kennel in the hope I will take him out. It was wet and snowy this morning but Monty was not bothered by the weather. We walked mainly along roads as it was so wet and Monty was not phased at all by traffic. We did have a funny moment where Monty stopped to sniff and when I looked down he had tangled himself up in some Christmas lights someone had on a bush outside their house. I asked Monty to wait and he stood patiently while I sorted out the leads from the lights. He does check in with me regularly while we are walking, for reassurance more than anything but he has put his trust in me and is happy to do what I ask of him. When we returned to his kennel I had a towel ready to dry him off. At first he was a little unsure about this but within minutes he got the idea and was enjoying having his tummy rubbed with the towel. Once you have Monty's trust he is ready and willing to learn and he is a fast learner.

I was surprised to read that Monty is 14months old, I would have put him at 7/8 months as he's still all 'legs and uncertainty' angel13.gif]
He's an absolute love, he was a bit unsure to begin with but was up on his hind legs giving me kisses in no time. Monty is a bit nuts on the lead in the way only pups are, we even had some zoomies together. He gets a nerve on around new dogs, barking and going a bit loopy-loo but one "ah, sit" and he chills out, just needs to work on his meets and greets :smiley-rolleyes010.gif: He can give both paws and is as bright as a button.
Monty was my last walk of the day and it was a tough day as most of them are at kennels in the winter, so many dogs struggling in the cold and just in need of a cuddle. Monty's puppy eyes broke me a little. So I sat on his kennel floor and had a bit of a blub, Monty got on my lap and smothered me in kisses quite ruining my lippy, but I let the sweet caring boy get away with it love4.gif

Johan took the background out for me as I took the pic in Monty's kennel, isn't he stunning?!

So chuffed this morning to find that Monty was a happy chappie! Our last meeting was when he had just arrived at Guildford and he was a very pitiful, sad soul.
We had nice cuddles in his kennel and he even shared his ball with me inviting me to play.
He was so good on his walk, walking calmly on a loose lead looking back at me every now and then. He did not seem at all bothered by the noisy traffic and did a beautiful sit when asked before crossing the road.
There were moments of loony puppy behaviour with the odd leap despite being on a lead but he soon corrected himself when he realised that he wasn’t able to bound away with me attached!
Such a gorgeous looking boy, think small Lab, the colour of amber......swoon.
He needs reassurance and guidance when walking past unknown dogs as he can be a little defensive with a low growl but I believe in this boy - he needs to feel safe and everything else will slot into place.
He is very treat orientated so training should be a doddle.
Lets not waste anymore of this lad’s life, he has so much potential and it is such a shame that he is languishing in a cold kennel.
