Back home it was time for snuggles
That was after his lunch ! Rocco has the appetite of a horse ! I remembered I had a slow eater bowl which means Rocco has to work harder to get his dinner out of the bowl which slows him down, worked a treat And does he leave a clean bowl or does he leave a clean bowl ! Absolutely every morsel licked up and a spotless bowl afterwards !!! I’ve also given him his food in 2 halves with a gap in between at mealtimes to mean he gets more time to digest rather than all down the shoot in one !We love walking the Kennels Dogs - would you like to join us?

After snuggles and a rest I had some gardening to do - cutting back a few shrubs.
With some foster dogs that means a fairly slow process as it’s one stick for me one for you But not Rocco, he was fabulous, played with a kong I’d given him and came to ask me to throw it for him a few times but completely ignored the twigs
Then back in, I think Rocco was pleased as it was getting colder and he’d taken himself to sit on the sofa by the back door ahead of me !

Sitting in the lounge ...
When he’s a little anxious Rocco will suck on a blanket, like a child would with a comforter. Later this afternoon after I’d come in and I’d sat down in the lounge he started to suck on the blanket in the doggie bed ... I wasn’t sure why but didn’t stop him, no need, he was doing no damage, went over and stroked his ear, sat down again and he would come to me for a fuss but then go back to his blanket.
I popped into the kitchen and then I think I worked it out...
I had missed the signs that Rocco needed a pee break and he’d ‘gone’ just by the back door, well bless, that must have concerned him and hence the worry sucking on the blanket - cleaned up no fuss which reassured Rocco and then outside together into the garden and he had another pee, then back inside to the warm and no more sucking
Bless him, he really had nothing to worry about but maybe in the past he’s been chastised - well it was me that got it wrong by not letting him outside frequently enough, me Rocco, not you, you have been such an amazing boy xxx Fell asleep zzz zzzzz And made himself more comfy What an impression Rocco has made on me, such an absolute LOVE of a dog, adore this boy and so pleased I’ve had the chance to get to know him away from the kennel environment.
Top dog and
Love you Rocco xxx
Rocco hasn’t touched anything he shouldn’t - he’s moved a couple of cushions from the sofa/chair onto the floor but totally unharmed ! Re: Rocco Ridgeback x Staffie DofB 06.16 Oxted W/E foster
Rocco was fab overnight again and had no problem following me straight upstairs to bed this time
He did have a suckle on the blanket on my bed as he wasn’t sure if he should really be there ! I let him be and told him what a good boy he is and tickled his ear whilst he sucked away. Not more than 5 mins later I called his name, got a kiss and no more sucking on the blanket all night and he stayed curled up close by my side
Another thumbs up for this boy... he doesn’t snore
Clean all night and outside at 8am this morning for pee and poop time - then breakfast (half in his slow eater bowl to give him more digestion time).
Rocco followed me back upstairs and again sucked his blanket as a comforter whilst I showered ! He doesn’t even really make the blanket wet, just the jaw motion I think that gives him a focus when he’s slightly anxious - fine by me, I just bestow as many good boys as I can to show him he really doesn’t need to be concerned and I’m sure if I could have worked it for him to stay longer he soon wouldn’t have felt the need.
All dressed and hair dried (me that is not Rocco!!) so time for walkies and Rocco loves that . He is so easy to harness and wore a very smart coat to keep him warm and once again walked like a dream
Time for his second half of breakfast, a bit of my bagel with honey and cuddles before it was sadly time to head back to the kennels
So hard when you know all this boy wants from life is to snuggle close to his humans like this
Come on Rocco’s home, this young lad deserves a family to love and they will be loved to the moon and back by this loyal gorgeous boy xxx
