Ralph and I had some time in the paddock on Friday. A gentle giant who can be unsure of himself in unfamiliar surroundings and still learning about the outside world. But Ralph had fun racing around the muddy paddock! Gorgeous boy love4.gif

Today I got to walk the lovely RALPH! He's available to adopt from Guildford kennels.

I had heard Ralph gets very overly loving when you first go into his kennel, so I held his collar as I went in and got him to sit, which he did very well. He now wears a cani-collar, which he protests a little at first wearing but soon gets used to it. He was fine to harness and clip his metal leads onto.

We left the kennels relatively calmly and walked off at a brisk pace. After about 200m he slowed down a little bit does like to weave from left to right, either to sniff or as he's excited.

The cani-collar worked wonders to help keep him with me but if he got a little too energetic, a little "ah ah" realigns him.

We walked past a field with numerous horses in, a few right next to the fence. He was a tad too excited and overzealous for my liking so I did have to raise my voice slightly to get him to listen. We also saw another horse on a lane and it is clear he is VERY interested to go over. I am not sure I would trust him around small furries because of this reaction.

We had a wander to Losely Park and once we got to the big field he kind of seemed a little overwhelmed with all the space. As he has been kept in a yard for a while I wondered if he might feel vulnerable so we went over to the edge of the field and he relaxed a little. He was a bit jumpy around novel noises - don't think he's ever heard a buzzard call before as he seemed quite alarmed by it!

He's definitely very alert around the sight, smell or sound of other dogs. He will need gentle but persistent ongoing work to socialise him properly and build his confidence, both around other dogs and in life in general.

Ralph is great with people and doesn't seem bothered by traffic. He was somewhat reluctant to go back in his kennel so bless him I think he finds it a bit stressful in there (wouldn't we all?!).

Are you looking for a gentle giant who you can help introduce him to the world of dogs? If so, Ralph is your boy!

My second meeting with Ralph this weekend and we went on our well established walk well away from too many distractions. When I say a walk, it was more a stalk as Ralph likes to stand and listen as much as walk. Everything seems to be a bit overwhelming for him although even in the last week I’ve noticed he’s coming out of himself a little bit more – well done to everyone that has spent time with him. So much so that on the way back he decided to lie down and refuse to move until I changed direction!
A loving lad who needs to be looked after and loved so he can develop into a great addition to the family.

Ralph and I had another Friday walking date. I have such a soft spot for Ralphy boy. We were meant to go out with the canny collar to help with his pulling but in protest he planted himself onto the ground and refused to budge. So we proceeded without the canny collar (that’s me trained!) and he chose to show me that he could walk like a dream. What a gorgeous boy Ralph is love4.gif

Haha, that's the akita stubbornness I'm used with miko...the indignant 'I don't need such an undignified collar.' attitude. I'd love to meet Ralph one day, he looks gorgeous.... Lovely to see he's settling into Guildford, hope he's homed soon.
Rescue animals are not damaged they have just experienced more in life. If they were human we would call them wise.

My 3rd walk with Ralph on a very hot day so we just chilled. He managed to drink my entire water supply and then headed straight to his water bowl when we got back. I had to wait another 20 minutes until I got home for my refreshment!

I love Ralph.
He is a gorgeous and soppy lump.
We have had some lovely walks lately where Ralph has happily bumbled along by my side.
On one of our walks we met a group of workmen who loved Ralph and gave him loads of attention. Ralph was very happy and comfortable sitting amongst a group of strangers lapping up all the love he was being given!
A very special big lad who has the most wonderful, loving nature.

I love Ralph (says another big fan of the handsome boy!) love4.gif
We had a lovely walk in the pouring rain yesterday. As he showed me last time that he didn’t care for his canny collar, I tried a new harness which leads from the front (doubled over his other harness so he had both leads on), and it seemed to work for both of us. No zigzagging and no pulling even in an open field. He did get worried once by the sight of an offlead spaniel in the distance but his owner kindly put him on the lead and Ralph calmed down.
Back at kennels he enjoyed being dried with a towel and gave me lots of cuddles. If I had a large secure garden, this boy would be mine. He melts my heart every time angel13.gif]

Even in the pouring rain Ralph is stunning

Ralph hiding from the camera lens !
Oh what a boy, Ralph is stunning to look at with a beautiful gentleness to him .I've walked Ralph a few times this week and we've been off on woodland adventures. To Ralph s amusement we disturbed two young deer and as they skipped off Ralph wanted to join in ,Thankfully after a short jog Ralph composed himself returning to the plodding pace that he so prefers. Ralph is great by a busy road , takes instructions and support well if he is unsure of his surroundings. Ralph is a large boy but has endearing qualities to him and so deserves a loving home x

I took Ralph into the paddock this weekend and he had a great time zooming around and stretching his legs - in the few times I've walked Ralph he has improved so much - he's easy to handle when you enter his kennel, easy to harness and quite happy to bumble along next to you. He can still get a bit stressed around livestock as coming from a sheltered life I'm sure a pack of giant cows stood close by would be very intimidating!

He is also quite happy to sit in the grass and just enjoy some company.

Ralph is a lovely gentle giant who really deserves a home of his own.
