Dear Ralph lacks confidence in himself despite being a super dog. He can get worried by other dogs and will try and hide behind his walkers legs. With gentle reassurance he is fine - he takes great comfort from kind words. He hugs Jake as soon as he enters his kennel - quite the romance going on there.........Jakes pants stayed up this week - the trousers didn't 0002.gif] Ralph means no harm in his big, bear hug cuddles - he's just sooooo happy for some company and to be going for a walk. Jake and beth love walking him and always ask for him. They are new walkers which just goes to show how well behaved Ralph is. Xx

To save Jakes blushes, I got Ralph harnessed and ready for his walk yesterday. He made a half hearted attempt to give me one of his 'special' cuddles but a firm uh uh and he stopped. Jake walks Ralph for miles - sometimes Ralph is unsure but he really does take great comfort from a confident walker. Ralph absolutely loves Jake and when he realised it was the marathon man walking him and not the middle aged slow worm, he was delighted!!

I got to walk Ralph on Saturday woo.gif] He is a very popular boy on Saturdays so I grabbed my chance with less walkers in.

Ralph was his wonderful self. Calm out on our walk and such a sweet boy. We passed little Rolo out on his walk and he barked at Ralph who sped up to get away from him! 0002.gif]

Ralph is a fantastic boy. Jake and Beth walked him today - they ask for Ralph every weekend as he’s stolen their hearts. I was right outside the kennels as they left, Ralph totally ignored me!! Cheek!! He loves the long walks Jake and Beth give him and wasn’t letting anyone make him miss a second of it. I feed all the dogs a treat before I go - Ralph was laying in his bed totally relaxed. He didn’t get up (god knows how many miles they walked him today :dog_running-186.gif: ), so I had to throw his treat in.xx.

I was delighted to be walking with Ralph on Friday! Ralph can be unsure around other dogs, so we went out walking with walker Simon and Ralph’s kennel neighbour Shadow. He was comfortable with Shadow walking ahead, but showed a little anxiety when he saw off lead dogs in the distance. Later in our walk we passed a couple of on lead spaniels and he barely even noticed them!

It’s clear Ralph hasn’t had lots of experience in the outside world but he is responsive to his walker when needed and affectionate and keen to engage (for sausages!) in the safety of his kennel. Ralph would really benefit being homed where he can continue to build his confidence and skills. A gorgeous pup inside and out love4.gif

I took Ralph out for the first time Saturday and found out what a smashing boy he was. I do like a larger dog (until I see some of our lovely little ones!) and I had noticed him in the kennels and wondered what he was like. I avoided his early pounces and harnessed him easily but had to switch his lead from material to chain ones as he bit through the material one (thankfully before we got off the premises).
Out of the kennels he’s very easy going (after reading about him I took a route that gave us a chance of avoiding other dogs) and he likes nothing better to just stop every now and then and simply look and listen. Very relaxing and not what I was expecting. Welcome to the world of Ralph!
He seemed quite distantly thoughtful at times and refused to take any treats when out, although he made up for this when we returned! If someone could adopt him and give him the stability and time he needs to adjust I’m sure they would have one lovely boy.

Ralph and I had some time in the paddock on Friday. A gentle giant who can be unsure of himself in unfamiliar surroundings and still learning about the outside world. But Ralph had fun racing around the muddy paddock! Gorgeous boy love4.gif

Today I got to walk the lovely RALPH! He's available to adopt from Guildford kennels.

I had heard Ralph gets very overly loving when you first go into his kennel, so I held his collar as I went in and got him to sit, which he did very well. He now wears a cani-collar, which he protests a little at first wearing but soon gets used to it. He was fine to harness and clip his metal leads onto.

We left the kennels relatively calmly and walked off at a brisk pace. After about 200m he slowed down a little bit does like to weave from left to right, either to sniff or as he's excited.

The cani-collar worked wonders to help keep him with me but if he got a little too energetic, a little "ah ah" realigns him.

We walked past a field with numerous horses in, a few right next to the fence. He was a tad too excited and overzealous for my liking so I did have to raise my voice slightly to get him to listen. We also saw another horse on a lane and it is clear he is VERY interested to go over. I am not sure I would trust him around small furries because of this reaction.

We had a wander to Losely Park and once we got to the big field he kind of seemed a little overwhelmed with all the space. As he has been kept in a yard for a while I wondered if he might feel vulnerable so we went over to the edge of the field and he relaxed a little. He was a bit jumpy around novel noises - don't think he's ever heard a buzzard call before as he seemed quite alarmed by it!

He's definitely very alert around the sight, smell or sound of other dogs. He will need gentle but persistent ongoing work to socialise him properly and build his confidence, both around other dogs and in life in general.

Ralph is great with people and doesn't seem bothered by traffic. He was somewhat reluctant to go back in his kennel so bless him I think he finds it a bit stressful in there (wouldn't we all?!).

Are you looking for a gentle giant who you can help introduce him to the world of dogs? If so, Ralph is your boy!
