Spencer needs a supportive family to offer time and tolerance to allow their new dog to settle. NB Our Rescue asks owners to maintain dogs on lead in public spaces and manage encounters, as dog law changes place dog's lives at greater risk.
Known background: Spencer was found stray/abandoned in Feb 2016 & unclaimed within a council pound. We stepped forwards to offer a Rescue place. Spencer is neutered, chipped and fully vaccinated. Spencer we believe was part of a hound pack so needs an understanding family and a multi-dog pack. Spencer is in foster in a multidog household near Godstone

Once a dog is with us and we begin to work with them and unpack them they can and often do reveal positive skills trust and transform behaviours 7.08.16 Hi Lynne , Spencer was a stray picked up in February 2016, what a mess he was in. He had a virus that was caused because his immune system was awful and to go with it he had red sore skin , and severe diarrhoea and sickness as well as bring very thin. He has tattoos in his ears which represent his date of birth which was 2015 and the number 10 , we believe this could be because he was part of a hunt pack and didn't make the standard and was thrown out or he came from back yard breeders. He is a beagle x , around a year old , castrated and fully vaccinated . I've had him back since end of March/April . Spencer needs a home where there are other dogs and adults only as he can't cope with too many people. It's taken me until now nearly 5 months on to be able to handle him properly, he needs patience and understanding as the slight thing panics him, he needs routine and a calm / quiet household . Once you've gained Spencers trust he will make a sweet loving boy . I would like Spencer back if he does find a home but it happens to fall through. Spencer can't go back into kennels as he doesn't cope at all once in the kennel environment. I doubt Spencer will ever be able to be let off lead as he gets easily freaked by on coming people on walks and noises. Thanks Rebecca.

Rachel and I met Spencer the other weekend, we were warned he was very nervous of strangers - we entered Beccy's front garden / yard and were greeted by several dogs ranging from Jack russell's to a very friendly Staffie, I just plonked myself out the way armed with my camera and Rachel armed with treats made a fuss of the other dogs.
He was watching intently how the other dogs interacted with Rachel and slowly but surely he was getting closer and closer, Spencer is very treat focussed and within about 10 mins was taking treats out of Rachel's hand, . You could see Spencer so wanted to interact but his fear of strangers were obviously holding him back.
A few photos for you to enjoy:
How handsome is he ??? Beccy with some treats eating out of Rachel's hand Photobombed by a cheeky terrier These two photos were taken within the first few minutes of arriving, you can see he's not too sure At the end of the photoshoot I puy away the camera and Spencer even came over to me and happily took a treat out of my hand so I'd say he's very trainable with treats around

Spencer I am sure is an ex working hound the tattoo again rings the hallmark of a working breed, in this case hunting hound. Hounds are happier living within a pack and be retained on lead at all times.
