Hank Mastiff DOB 01.08 - 22.06.18
I hope you have been keeping well?
I am so very sorry to have to let you know that unfortunately we had to let Hank cross rainbow bridge this morning.
It was all rather sudden. He went lame on both his front and back right legs 2 weeks ago and after a CT bone cancer was found in his right front leg and a large tumour in his lung which was spreading throughout his body. We tried steroids to see if we could make him comfortable and give him a little longer but unfortunately they didn’t work and he was really struggling to both walk and breath and was clearly in pain and so we made the heart breaking decision to end his suffering.
He had big cuddles and kisses as he passed and I hope he knew how much he was loved.
I am so sorry we couldn’t do more or give him longer but thank you for trusting us to adopt him and give him a home for his last months.
Emma and Robert

Hank needs a supportive family to offer time and tolerance to allow their new dog to settle. NB Our Rescue asks owners to maintain dogs on lead in public spaces and manage encounters, as dog law changes place dog's lives at greater risk.
Known background: Hank was a "hand in" to Broxbourne kennels as he had a set too with another dog & his owner abandoned him. The kennels have taken him slowly but he sharing a kennel with another dog happily and in the pack so mixing with 6 other dogs. We stepped forwards to offer a Rescue place. Hank is in boarding kennels in Guildford.
Hank is very personable & people love him. He finds kennels hard as he is not one for dogs in his face though left alone, content to walk with other dogs and builds up trust. Hank is socializing with other dogs at the kennels, sharing a kennel and meeting and socialising out on walks. Hank is now much happier. He needs to be managed by a large dog family who will build his confidence. Thank you

I was lucky to meet handsome hunk Hank at the last photoshoot in Broxbourne
He's a big fella but also a big softy ! There's something very endearing about a big dog needing some reassurance and Ryan was there for Hank. Ryan did mention he had a favourite and that boy was Hank
Hank I think repaid the complement, look how he adores and looks up to Ryan ... Gorgeous lad relaxed a bit and charmed us all Lovely lovely boy x

First time out with Hank and what a lovely dog he is. It does not say what Hank is crossed with but I would guess Staffy simply because he is so friendly and charming and does that typical Staffy sit on your feet and sit and back onto you. I can see why he is one of Ryan's favourites as he is so nice natured and good around people. In the video you will see him charging around but he was very careful not to pull the extender and when he hurtled towards you he made sure he braked before arrival. Adam did advise he was not terribly dog friendly but after introductions he was good with Bella and although just about as inept with other dogs as Storm its not nasty but just needs some work on a regular basis and I would say Hank is certainly worth the work a friendlier dog you are unlikely to find.

Off to see Hank on a fairly dreary Sunday. But nothing dreary about Hank who w's delighted to be out and about so decided to give him a bit of a run, well jog for me, round the park followed by a longish walk and Hank is really happy sniffing along. Not hugely treat focused so had some sausage left at the end of the walk, a first for me! Really friendly responsive to voice commands, mostly, and just an endearing affectionate lump. Pictures to follow from the skilled side of the family.

Out with Hank again a really lovely dog. Almost a complete contrast with Rusty as bounds to the end of the extender is not treat focused and kind of enthusiastic with other dogs but is also friendly affectionate patient and good natured. We did some blackberry picking on way back and Hank was patience itself plonking himself in the shade and chilling out while we covered a few bushes, better than Bella in some way. Just seemed happy to be out and again when we got him back gave him a good brushing which he rolled over for. Lovely lad and again unlike Rusty I could see if I opened the car boot I would have another passenger, Hank knows about car boots and is waiting for one of his own to come along and whisk him away.

Asked the team who else they wanted walking and out came Hank, who was very keen to get going so waved a goodbye to Ryan as we headed out at speed. Now its fair to say Hank is pretty reactive to other dogs in a inept nervous fashion that reminds me a lot of Storm. He showed the same reaction when he spied a deer too a sort of nervous moaning so not nasty just unsure and something that could be worked on. He is worth the effort though as in every other respect he is a lovely dog who loves your company knows sit and will come back for his name. He would really do well with repeated walks but we only have so much time. Also having said Hank is reactive he is of course fine with Bella, so go figure. Just a lovely dog.
