Shadow update....

Shadow has come for a second short foster break with me in Reading and he's been amazing!!!

Before we get into his stay, Shadow will need an experienced home with a secure garden (he can standing jump to over 6ft so will need higher fences or 45deg angled extenders on the tops) and secure entry/exit strategies. He can be bouncy around other dogs so management will be needed and socialising classes would be brilliant for him. He can also be true to the breed and show distrust of people he doesn't know and if not managed will make decisions for himself and could possibly lunge which we would not want. He is getting so much better at following instruction and as the vid that follows will show, he can be taken anywhere and even cope with little dogs appearing from nowhere.

OK...now that that's done...….Let's begin.

Shadow settled back into home life after only 30 minutes. It was like he had never been away and cuddles were flowing.

Due to trusting Shads in the flat I haven't used the crate this visit. He will take himself away to the bedroom or hallway if he wants some space but is happily chilling on the sofa or on the bedding I've laid out on the floor. He looks so chilled and proud of himself at this trust, and so he should be love4.gif

We've been out for several walks in Swinley as always and Shads has been great. He will allow the muzzle to be used without fuss when it's needed but I've used it less and less and he is happy to be managed on the leads and the risk of any redirection onto the leads has diminished massively as I'm aware of this and manoeuvre him and the leads to eliminate this. This is a HUGE step that proves he is able to learn what is expected in which situation. Proper proud Kennel Dad moment for me!!

We've done some more town walks and as you can see in one of the vids we've been walking in areas of heavy foot traffic purposely to help Shadow become more relaxed in this situation. He excelled, even when we turned a corner and a little dog was hidden behind a pedestrian. The boy did great!!

Back in the flat I've been raising Shad's base levels of excitement. This means bringing him up to a very excited level and then using coping strategies to bring him back down. With exposure to this, things that would usually set him off are nothing more than distractions that cause him to do nothing more than look and then walk away. This can be seen in the vid with the tug toy as he goes from thrashing excited monkey to chilled calm gorgeous Shadow in seconds. This is mega huge for him. He even recognises when he is getting to excited and will walk to his toy, shake it a little and then sit and pick/dissect it to calm himself. Such an amazing boy.

We've been in the forest for over 5 hours today and he's just eaten 3/4 of a roast chicken so he's lying at me feet with a full tummy and a smile from ear to ear. This boy is a STAR!! (This was a few days ago....copied FB post)

Vids to be added when The Cloud allows me to download the footage.

If you can offer this amazing boy a home, please read his thread and get that homing questionnaire completed. I am bias for this lad as I get him and he gets me but all of the skills he has are transferable so his new family can experience all that you see here if you give him the time, support and reassurance he needs and deserves.

Loves ya Shads love4.gif

Shadow out on a town walk in heavy foot traffic. He walks 'close' and with a little reassurance to 'walk on' or 'leave it' he can be managed past any situation. He's such a pleasure to be around and is so full of fun. Love him to bits love4.gif

Unfortunately I can only foresee fur flying in that scenario Fred despite how much I would want that to work. My heating would be minimal due to the snuggles I'd get though 0002.gif]

Some footage of Shadow showing his impulse control again by the water. He's a real water baby and loves to jump in given the chance.

He's so much fun out on a walk. Loves coming back to you for some cuddles and a tummy rub. Big softie love4.gif
