Oh Lynne what you described is just the exact same way we had with Lady - so sad to read it in print. So hard because there really are good days and bad days so just as you think 'it's time' they rally unbelievably and you know it's not time. A real emotional rollercoaster where you watch their every movement and worry the whole time.

Am sure you are both having loads of cuddles and making the most of the good days. Thinking of you all - hugs to Lorenzo too, he really is a sweetheart.

Touch and go...life force very low..went to Tim her vets this am 'prepared' ..as our last shot he gave her a huge injection of cortisone saying we have nothing to lose. She collapsed on return; messed and then fell into deep sleep. Woke refused food struggled to stay standing. An hour later took a few steps and ate a little buttered toast and a little warm milk but refused all else. Collapsed starting a wee. Took a few steps left standing which is good for her..then suddenly she was on the door step and messed. Oh God feeling perhaps we made the wrong decision..this is no quality of life just a thread of hope we had to pursue.

After another 3 hours sleep she stayed standing when placed and walked a few steps managed a wee still standing. Put her lead on to inspire..didn't inspire. Walked out the kitchen and she lifted her head and walked 5 paces towards me so Lorenzo wrapped her up in a large towel and took her up to the bathroom. I gave her a warm shower whilst she lay down, with puppy shampoo. Layed her wrapped in a clean towel on a soft bed near radiator with a pillow for her head. 20 minutes later went in and she had changed position and swung her body toward door? water bowl? Not interested in water bowl. Bought a brush in and let Glenn in (One of the dogs standing outside the door pleading to come in) Brushed her down to help her fur dry. Have been doing a lot of strong stroking to get her grounded in her body and acquainted with her body awareness. Put her on her feet..she managed a wee without collapsing and suddenly from me noting how flat her tail was she took 7 steps with her tail wagging..Carried into study so with us all and in a comfy bed asleep. We shall see.

Fern was peaceful last night but as I carried her to lie in her place beside me at the side of our bed I knew she couldn't stand. She slept peacefully and I listened to her breathing. As I drank my coffee this morning I said to Lorenzo I will call you mid morning and I can come back and we'll go with Fern to the vets if she hasn't rallied. He said he would find it difficult to make that decision..I said I couldn't put her through another day where her life force was so flat. I glanced down and yes Our Fern had made the decision. Her body was still warm...she was at PEACE.

Lorenzo will leave her for the dogs to smell and come to terms with her death..just as I always wanted. She will be buried in her garden today.
