Ellie's Christmas 2016's message Hello everyone! I've been really well and have had a good morning at the park. I chased a squirrel and played with loads of other dogs and looked after a puppy who was being silly. I'm as cheeky as ever and full of beans, don't know what my Mum was worrying about Merry Christmas to all
18th January 2017: Lynne,
We are letting Ellie go this morning. I know it's time and I am doing the right thing, but it's so hard.
Xx Teresa
Ellie in her last few months below
Hi, most of you know I have a staffie X Rottie called Ellie, who is 13 1/2 now. She is really fit and well, and has also recently been seen by vet, had bloods done and has no health issues other than on Metacam for arthritis. She is very active, playful and alert. She is fed raw. Since we got her at 3 months old, she has only ever had one accident, a puddle in kitchen floor. She has always been a clean dog and even now, can go hours without a wee.
However, today, we found one of our beds covered in wee and a not concerned Ellie downstairs. She is not unwell, is acting normally and there doesn't seem to be any explanation for it. I can only think maybe she was in a very deep sleep, something that happens now she is older sometimes, and just had an accident in her sleep, due to her age!!!
Any thoughts on this? We are puzzled and can't think of another explanation. Has anyone experienced similar?

Re: Elderly dog concern
Yes I had the very same thing happen. I found my dog Bess in her bed or just getting out can't remember which, and the bed was soaked with wee. She wasn't bothered it never happened again and my vet couldn't explain it. She was oldish at the time. So not very helpful sorry but yes the same thing and nothing came of it. Hope she is ok xx
Re: Elderly dog concern
Thanks Nina, it is strange, I had also wondered if she had had a small stroke. She seems fine so hoping it won't happen again. Jon's steam cleaning the bed haha. Thank you for replying, it helps to discuss.

Thank you, it's good to know that something can be done if it continues. I will keep my eye on her for now.

Re: Elderly dog concern
Older females who have been speyed can develop intermittent incontinence due to estrogen levels. Tia has had stages ranging from minor to quite severe, but it only happens now and then (the worst was when she had been playing with the sprinkler in the garden).
Now, from someone who never believed in acupuncture....about 2 months ago Tia's acupuncturist told me to rub a spot on her head, as this is the area which affects the bladder. I do this regularly and she hasn't had any incidents since, maybe coincidence but then I wasn't expecting the acupuncture to do much good for her back legs and I was wrong about that too
If it does become more severe it is easily dealt with through Estrogen supplements, provided it is an estrogen-related problem.

Re: Elderly dog concern
Not sure if it's related but I am beside myself today. Ellie is really ill. Been up with her since 4am, she went outside then came in, head very low and she crashed for 3 1/2 hours, very shut down and lethargic. Seen vet, who suspected stroke but can't see anything in her eyes. Blood tests showed renal count not brilliant so had to go back for more bloods to be sent away as vet worried. Brought her home to rest and she has now been violently sick. If no improvement by morning, vet wants her in for X-rays.
I'm venting on here , sorry, just so worried.
