Some sad news today.
Barley has gone to sleep, not to wake.
She's been a very lovely puppy, and a real daddy's girl. But she has spent a long hard life on medication after being diagnosed with Addison's Disease at a year old. Daily steroids and hormones to counteract her malfunctioning adrenal gland caused her to wear out before her time. She spent several years bald as a piglet (her nickname because of this) until the dose of her steroids came down and her fur grew back.
Two consecutive Christmases were spent rehabilitating from knee surgery when ligaments tore in each side (again, a side effect of the steroids).
But even after this, she'd gallop around the garden after her pack-mates, and roll in the clover like she did when we got her in 2007.
But last week, her liver and kidneys gave up on her, and after a weekend in the sunshine, it was plain she was not getting any better. The vet visited today to give her relief from the pain.
Here she is a couple of months ago with Flynn (viewtopic.php?t=1339), and her little (adopted) sister Brie.

Michael found your homing picture
Such a wonderful homing I remember it well and then for you to come forwards for Flynn was a miracle. In your care Barley had minimal suffering of her chronic condition. She found you and no doubt will stay close.
