Thrilled for him, absolutely thrilled. His little face was always so eager to please - and a better home could never have been found - thanks so much to Colin and Vicky ... oooops and all the family

Failed fosterers at last and now members of a very distinguished club! "Alfie the 'Homing Pidgeon' Biggs" had to stay though cos Colin relied on him on their walks!

Thanks for the messages. We're, finally, very pleased that Alfie is in the Dogs Rehomed section. We also feel that we are the lucky ones as we have ended up with a dog who brings us a lot of happiness. I always loved dogs as a child but never got one of my own. My Dad realised that it would be him walking it in the wind and rain late at night. And he would have been right.
But at 43 the idea of walking Alfie in the wind and rain, although not quite as pleasurable as walking him on a crisp sunny day, doesn't faze me. To be honest, I don't think Alfie is too bothered about walking in the wind and rain either! But as he showed on our long trek back in March he'd walk all day if you wanted him to.
It has taken us a while to get here because of our work situation, but Alfie has made the rehoming possible by being a dog that suits our lifestyle and that of Vicky's mum. Despite his possible issues with other dogs he is so calm around the house and is happy to potter around the garden and destroy the occasional stick! Give him a few treats, a warm sofa and an afternoon nap watching 'Flog It' and he's pretty happy.
Alfie still isn't fully socialised with our cat when he is at our house but I'm 90% certain he will be fine. Even if he isn't we have decided that it's manageable as long as they are "supervised".
Our days of weekend fostering appear to be over, but we'll be back to volunteer dog walker status very soon!
Here's some pictures of the boy in question taken from the last couple of weeks:
His new toy....an "indestructible" handball:
"So....let me get this right.....you're telling me this is indestructible?"
"Ok.....where's the next one?"
The only way you can get a ball back from him....
Not 'Flog It' again......
"Ok have a nice day at work....I think I'll stay here for a bit...."

This has to be the best homing I've seen at RR, and to think there was a time when Colin would pass by Alfie's kennel in favour of 'easier' dogs makes it all the better. It just empathises that a dog shouldn't be judged by its past and that those dogs who aren't dog fluent can still go on to make fantastic companions, it's really not the end of the world if a dog isn't fluent with other dogs.

Hi Lonewolf7 just been reading Alfie's post and yet again I have a lot of tears in my eyes. What a fantastic outcome for him and your family. It some times makes you wonder how these dogs end up in kennels as the love we get off our 2 is unbelievable and also the others that you see in the kennels. These beautiful dogs ask us for so little but give us so much in return and just melt our hearts non stop. We have had Sapphie 3 weeks and Buddie 4 days and cannot think of life without either off them. Well done and heres to a happy future for all rescue dogs. matt
