What a delightful playful little pup. Soldier and his brother, Admiral, came out to play today. First time to have their harnesses on and first time on the leads and despite the expected puppy playfulness and wriggling, they took to it all extremely well. After having their photos taken, they trotted happily off into the woods with our volunteers for a bit of an explore and cuddles in the Poets hut.

Soldier has come to stay with his brother Admiral.
It’s early days but sooooo many positives to report!
They travelled really well on the 30 mins journey to my home and on arrival met my dogs very happily and confidently.
Soldier is teeny, tiny compared to my dogs but he’s not bothered by that fact 0002.gif]
I have set up a crate with the door open and already, just a few hours in, both boys have taken themselves in there for a snooze.
They have LOVED the big garden and ran and ran and ran and ran around it!
They have been lovely with my dogs, playful yet respectful.
I am currently sitting on the sofa with both boys fast asleep on my knee. love4.gif
Beautiful, happy puppies.

So, what did Soldier and Admiral get up to last night, the first in our home?
They slept ALL night in their crate without a peep with Herbie the Staffie babysitter sleeping in his duvet next to them to make sure all was well!
They were totally clean and straight out this morning to do their business.
What good pups.

So, a few days in and Soldier’s true character is emerging.

He is of course very young, so still has moments of being a little anxious of new things (for example, the drill being used in the garden today to smash up our old patio) BUT generally he is very terrier - happy, plucky and confident.

He is very bright and has already “got” that all toilet business is to be done outside. Of course, I am paying lots of attention to toilet training however Soldier has not soiled inside once and is clean through the night.

He loves his crate and will take himself off there for a snooze or time out. He loves people and loves dogs but is not needy at all.

I have left him (& his bro Admiral) in the crate for very short periods during the day and he is sleeping when I leave and sleeping on my return.

He can be a bossy boots with his bro but is quite submissive with my 3 so he knows who to mess with!

He isn’t at all keen on my cats and wants to chase and also sees off any birds from our garden in true terrier styleeee.

Both pups are getting enough exercise charging around and playing in the garden.

What these boys need though is socialisation. It is quite obvious that they haven’t seen much of the world or walked on a lead.

The first time I took them out, both boys were overwhelmed and nervous of the world - cars, bikes, outside noise etc.

Now, once a day I am taking them out and about to experience the world.
We have sat on a bench near a busy road junction to watch the comings and goings, we have been for a wander around Pets at Home and yesterday we had a social walk with our ex foster, Ronnie Patterdale.

Soldier is really finding his paws and for the most, is happy and confident and has a lovely little prance to his plucky walk!

Admiral is much more reserved outside of the home and needs lots of reassurance and cuddles whilst he learns how to be brave.

Whoever is lucky enough to share their forevers with these lads will need to continue their socialisation especially for teeny, diddly, sweet natured Admiral.

Soldier’s brother was homed today which is bittersweet as Soldier is now brother-less.
Lets hope that Soldier’s forever people don’t keep him waiting for much longer and in the meantime Soldier is trying to find a new playmate in Nina Otterhound!
She is just a smidgen bigger than his brother and not quite as active but at least Soldier has doggy company whilst we all wait for Soldier to find his forever home.
