Dodger has settled so well. He's no trouble at all, and is fitting in just fine. We had a builder round yesterday to look at some work. My dogs were shut away going crazy, but Dodger greeted him nicely and trotted around with us quite happily.
I was playing ball with him in the garden earlier and he's a fab retriever. Good recall too.
Apparently there were visiting children in his former home (school-age) and he was great with them. Care would be needed over his dislike of fast moving people and wheels, but I imagine that he would view these things differently in the home. When the weather improves, perhaps I will take him out with my bicycle. He's not bothered by cars on the road.
If needed we could possibly cat-test him, but he's such a good boy that he may well settle with dog-savvy cats.

Lovely walk in the woods this morning. Dodger plods along so beautifully, he's very connected to his human, whether on a short or long lead.

Dodger had a lovely pack walk with a bunch of Ridgebacks (his sister May, plus another female and 3 large males). He had a great time. He was playing with them on the long line, and watched enviously as they chased each other around. (I do believe that his barking on the lead is excitement / frustration)
He did bark at horses up close, but it was fleeting, and didn't strain to get to them once they had passed by.
Two separate pairs of cyclists came past us. I held onto him as they came towards us, thinking that he might bark and lunge, but he didn't bat an eyelid.
Such a sociable boy, he really is.
