Today's new toy. I don't see it lasting long but it was an excellent aid for recall training, she brought it back to me nearly every time and dropped it in exchange for a treat :) (That's how she carries it, then uses her paws to get if off her head to let me have it.)

She's pretty much stopped moulting, it only lasted a few days.

A little update. Betzy has a new trick - "Oh, silly me, I seem to have knocked over the box with my harness and lead in it. I suppose we might as well go for a walk now then?"

She was never a problem around the house from the start but she is even more settled now. Play-fighting with her is less frantic (and less painful! Her mouth is softer now) and she will sit and wait until told she can have her dinner, it doesn't get gobbled down in record time anymore either.

I have finally recovered from my Achilles tendon problem and took her out for another run on her canicross lead. She loved that and the training she's done on the lead shows as she doesn't pull as much. When walking on her long lead she's still anxious to be at the limit of the lead all the time but when I rein her in she walks quietly alongside me.

The "tail" of the scales - when Betzy arrived from rescue she was 16 kg, since then she's consistently put on weight (apart from a dip when she went in kennels while we were in Canada) and now, 6 months later, is nearly 21 kg. She's still much the same, always looking for food, squirrels, cats; always ready to charge around; always ready for some slightly over-enthusiastic play-fighting (my arm is lightly bruised all over from her teeth!); always ready to lead the way when walking; always ready to have her tummy rubbed. She's rather calmer, it's quite safe to put your face near her now with less worry she's going to jump up and bash into your head, her paws are less of a clumsy, deadly weapon. She will come when called - unless there is something more interesting, such as absolutely *anything* when we're out walking. She merely pulls on her lead now, always in a hurry to get to the next thing of interest, she's stopped yanking my arm out of its socket. After she's walked a mile or so she calms down enough to walk quietly a couple of steps in front, never alongside. She has absolutely zero recall if let off her lead and even the 100 ft lead I got for her is too restricting as far as she's concerned.

Getting a rescue dog was more of a palaver than I expected but I'm so glad I did.

I forgot to mention the rapturous welcome every time I leave the house without her for 10 minutes!

I have left Betzy at home with my wife while I’m in Canada visiting our daughter and skiing (my wife doesn’t ski) and I’m missing her so reading all your stories about her makes me feel better, thank you all. Betzy continues to settle down, her Christmas present harness has helped reduce her need to pull and she will walk quietly. She still prefers zooming around on her 100 ft lead though!
