Meera needs a supportive family to offer time and tolerance to allow their new dog to settle. NB Our Rescue asks owners to maintain dogs on lead in public spaces and manage encounters, as dog law changes place dog's lives at greater risk.

Known background: Meera was handed in to a council pound. We stepped forwards to offer a Rescue place and save Meera's life. Meera is neutered, chipped & vaccinated. Meera was fostered several weekends. Briefly homed but return due to her lack of confidence around dogs. She was in Guildford Kenns enjoying regular weekend foster.

Sweet girl who has had to find herself within Rescue. Meera is settling with us & her confidence has grown. She does settle being left given a gradual programme but naturally will do better with a companionship home. Her confidence comes from her handlers & our walkers are welcoming her excess tender love. Original Referral: 01.09.15 Hi Lynne, I currently need a bit of help with a Staffie bitch. She is a lovely girl and I have explained everything below in detail;
We have a female 14 month old Staffordshire Bull Terrier in at the moment. She is lemon and white. As you can see from her photos, she is absolutely beautiful.

She has received an assessment from myself and my colleague and has been deemed good natured. She came to us last week. She was signed over to us by the owner. She was signed over due to the owner not being able to handle her anymore. She did receive a bite off of Meera during a dog squabble. After assessing the situation and getting all the facts, this WAS an ACCIDENT and not intentional. They have had Meera since a pup and they got her off of Facebook. They described her as hyper active.

Meera was being fed on food from Poundland called Weebox. On studying the content, this is a high protein food lacking in any nutritional value. This much I had gained already from the fact it came from poundland. Meera was living with an older 6 year old Staffie. Neither of them were being walked which was obvious from the condition of the 6 year old Taz. The dogs weren’t separated for feeding, they were fed a little bit apart. Meera was anticipating being fed on the day of the incident. The owner had gone to the food cupboard and Meera had jumped up at the side. Taz came along and Meera gave a grumble to tell her to go away, which she did. After the food was put down, Meera scoffed hers down and Taz had some left. Meera then went for Taz's food and gave her a warning nip on the neck. This worried the owner and she put her hand in between the dogs to separate them which in turn caused her to be bitten. I checked Taz's neck and there was no puncture wound what so ever. The owner did have to receive dissolvable stitches for a small bite on her hand. I had a look at Taz and noticed that her Vulva was swollen. I asked about this and it turned out, both the dogs were in season, which would have heightened the situation.

On hearing about this, it was evident that the bite was non-intentional and purely because the owner put her hands in the way. I asked for some more history as they had Meera for all her life. She is good around children just hyperactive which can be solved with training and correct diet. She was normally good around Taz. It appeared to myself and my colleague that Meera is a lovely girl and she would make a good pet but she hasn’t received ANY training at all or a proper diet of any nutritional value.

She has been with us for a week now and the kennels have said she is a lovely girl with a tiny bit of separation anxiety which is understandable. She is an escape artist when left in the paddock. They have a 8ft fence that she tries to climb but when a member of staff is with her she’s fine and playful. Mx Dog warden

No wonder she was hungry, that food is rubbish and only meant as a complimentary source not a main source of food. :x

I met beautiful fair maiden Meera this morning what a pretty little girl .She was a bit nervous when leaving the kennels but once on your way she walks lovely. If she pulls you won't feel it as she so slight .Harry was walking young Jessie RS she so wanted to walk beside her . They had sniff of each other a couple of kisses and walked lovely together .We met on lead large young dog the owner let them meet but Meera was a bit unsure and gave a little growl but not in an aggressive way.She just backed away. She had a sniff in the paddock she wasn't interested in toys but she did like to run about with Harry. She also likes sausages and is gentle when taking them. Needs loving gives lots of kisses and face washes . Another baby girl to love bless her xxx

Meera spent the weekend with us. What a lovely, lovely girl she is!

Meera is very young and has many puppy-ish ways. She likes to jump up to say hello – watch out for your tights! But she is such a little thing and very keen to please. Meera is quite a worrier and wants to be around her people all the time. She took a while to settle on Friday and whined for most of the evening, even while sitting with us. We had the usual "dogs don't sleep on my bed" conversation on Friday night and little bit of going round the houses before she agreed to sleep in her bed in the bedroom but not on the bed. Saturday morning started with a run in the garden with the children. She has made best friends there! We threw her tennis ball for ages. She stayed home with my dad on Saturday afternoon while we went to fetch my father in law from the airport. Meera watched the SA v Scotland game with him and was satisfied with the result. The Australia v England game was too much though, and she just couldn't watch... (Probably not alone there!) Sunday we went for a walk to show the visiting grandpa the neighbourhood, ending with the park where we had a good run around and then more ball games in the garden in the afternoon.

She had a good go at chasing Lola the cat on Sunday morning – really took me by surprise as she'd been very submissive towards Lola until then. However she doesn't worry me around Lola, I think she is a dog that could live with a cat.
Meera is very unhappy about being left alone, even if people are in the house. She will bark and whine if you leave her downstairs while you are upstairs and she was very unhappy at being shut in the lounge while Sainsburys delivered. Hopefully she will relax once she knows she's in her proper home.

This is a really, really lovely dog. The girls knew she was only visiting for the weekend but even so, the photos show how easily our younger daughter made friends with her. The two of them ran around the garden madly for most of the weekend. She needs help to overcome her fear of being left alone but once that's done, someone will have an amazing friend for life.

Meera thinks this is double standards! She's not allowed on our bed, but we can come in hers...?!

Lovely Meera is back with us for the weekend. She was neutered today so is quite a sleepy girl. She's tucked up in her bed with the old cellular blanket that used to be on the girls' cots when they were babies. Hasn't moved since she got here though I did get a tail wag a few minutes ago.
So lovely to have this girl back here for the weekend!

We had Princess Perky this morning. Very early this morning...!
I expected it though. She was such a dopey thing last night that we just took her upstairs at bedtime without a bedtime walk. 2:15am Meera woke me up to say she really really really needed to go out. I had fully expected to be cleaning up a puddle this morning so was very impressed she told me she needed to go. Anyway, short walk later and we were all back to bed until Princess Perky decided it was time to get up around 7am.
Meera is definitely feeling much better today. She had lots of cuddles with Foster Dad this morning and then nibbled some of her breakfast. We had a walk, she helped sort the washing and now she's curled up here helping me review some documents.

We've had a lovely weekend with Meera. Yesterday she came with us for a pub lunch, behaved beautifully in the pub even when another dog came to sit at the table next to us. After that we had a walk around the Isabella Plantation where she investigated all the autumn leaves.
My older daughter, who is a more reserved person than the cheeky monkey in the photos above, really got on well with Meera this weekend. She built her a "den" in the lounge (Meera's bed between 2 sofas with a blanket over the top) and spent time patting her and cuddling her. Meera was very gentle with her and the two of them are starting a good friendship.
We also discovered that Miss Meera has a very sweet tooth! I made some flapjacks and she was very quick to pounce on the crumbs. She will sit for flapjack! (She won't for boring dog treat...) She also made it very clear she wanted to share a piece of chocolate last night but the answer there was definitely no!

Meera is good company, so gentle and easy going. Meera just fits in with children, visitors, whatever is happening in the house. She doesn't like to be alone but a busy family with someone around in the day will find a super companion in Meera.

Meera kept up with the final pool matches in the World Cup. Now she really needs a home in time for the final - she doesn't want to miss it by being in kennels!
