Cody Patterdale Terrier DOB 10.05 - 06.08.19
Sadly we had to say goodbye to Cody this morning.
He had a check up and scan yesterday and was thought to be stable but took a turn for the worse in the night. We had to take him to the 24 hour vet to be put to sleep. He is now in the care of dignity pet crematorium, we are just back from taking him.
Devastated he went the way he did. If love could have saved him he would have lived forever.
Thank you for everything you have done for him over the years.

Cody's Thread below:
Current Status: Homed
Homing Requirements: Cody needs a terrier-aware family where his safety comes first. He needs to be retained on an extender lead for exercise. Cody has an intensive Patti mindset. Cody also has 'a thing' about brooms and should not have access to them, as he attaches himself. Cody has excellent dog skills but now needs to be an only dog. Exit management and a secure, terrier proof garden are required, as with any terrier. Cody cannot cope with kennels and his owners must only use this option as a last resort.
His Story: Cody grew up with another Patterdale but the resident dog didn't accept Cody as he reached adulthood. He came into TerrierRescue in 2006 as a one year old and was homed. Sadly, Cody lost his home due to a baby's arrival and a marriage break-up. Cody was homed again but his terrier traits were not accepted by a son whose very young children spend a lot of time with Cody's owner. Cody is neutered, chipped and vax'd. He was in foster with a multi-terrier family near Canterbury. Now back with his original family
Advert: Cody is a sweet dog who has had several homes, through no fault of his own. He has lived wIth older children and an elderly greyhound. Cody is always walked on an extender lead, and can be left. He is housetrained but attention is needed to prevent his access to too much water. Cody also walks on tables... some terriers do! He loves the car and loves to travel but needs securing. Cody could live in an urban or rural area.
Cody is a small, smooth haired Patterdale who is just ten years old. He is an absolute joy to own. He has always been dog-fluent, is used to living with another, and is an easy mixer. Gentle and caring: this pretty well sums up Cody. Cody so needs to be loved for his foibles and admired for his many gifts. He is a great, loving and social terrier.

The beautiful Cody! Such a lovely boy, such a sweet nature. Very happily posed for my photographs. He has such a kind eye. Also very well behaved - no pulling, just walks up front.
Notice he is splattered with mud - he enjoyed a nice splash in the stream! Laura :)

I'm going to apologise in advance for the number of pics on this only Cody is so photogenic and neither of us could stop snapping away.
Peter, Sid, Todd and I have had a day out in Ashdown Forest with Cody. Can't begin to tell you what a lovely time we all had and Cody showed just how brilliant he is.
First off he put Todd at ease so we set off with him sitting on the front seat watching the world go by
Once there he had to be bribed with a treat to head on into the forest and he soon began to relax and enjoy the walk
A cuddle helped
He was not keen on jumping into the stream so Todd and Sid had a wallow with him watching carefully. Â Off back up the hill and onto the road where the three boys chilled out together
Sid and Cody saying a proper hello
Then time for another cool down
How handsome is this dog!
We carried on back across the forest with him being as good as gold, friendly, happy, interested in all around him and very happy to be fussed and cuddled. Â We found a quiet spot and all five of us had a sit down. Cody was tired by this stage and he fell asleep on my lap snoring away. Sid heard some people off in the distance so the two of them had a quiet woof to make sure that they had their say and then back to sleep.
Sleepy boy
After some energy was found we set back off to the car and Cody was excited at the chance of another car ride
Back to the kennels for his dinner and we saw him finish up and then head to his bed.
I can't believe he has not been snapped up already. He is fantastic with other dogs, completely friendly with people and as light as a feather on the lead. He is an easy terrier all things considered and would be a real dream dog to have. He is so affectionate and I think he would love to be part of a pack of humans and canines - if we had a spot more room he would be in ours; he is that good. Brilliant boy!

Cody just didn't want to go for a walk today. I tried this route and that route but in the end, just settled for a short stroll near the kennels which he seemed happy with. Cody is a beautiful boy, full of affection and loves treats and one of my favourites at the kennels at the moment. He better get his walking legs by next week when I will be heading in his direction again

Yes Cody is exhausted and his paws are sore from being in kennels. We moved him to Gatwick where he has a quiet kennel with a huge soft bed and hoping he can sleep and heal. Oh kennels are tough!

Concerned about Cody having walked him Saturday & again yesterday. I took him to the vets today. He has a problem with his vestibular system and he is very tottery and holding his head on one side. Our vet gave him a long lasting antibiotic injection and is hoping it will right itself in 2 weeks. Cody was received back into Godstone straight into Debbie's arms. He will be pampered back to health.

Cody has come to us for a few days of R&R involving a lot of sleeping on the sofa, smelly sardines and whatever else he needs to get over this infection. He is still 100% terrier, as the broom in the waiting room at the kennels will vouch for, just very under the weather.
He had spent the morning in the dogmobile and when we arrived he joined us in the waiting room. He was walking like a sailor on shore leave and not that interested in treats. After some cuddles his appetite came back and we headed off to the vets with Lynne. Good news, and the release of a lot of tension in all of us, when the vet said he was happy that it is a vestibular infection and gave him an injection of steroids to help speed his cure.
Once home I carried him across to our closest park and Peter brought our two across for introductions. He was a little unsteady on his feet to start off with and then before too long he was pulling at the end of the lead, trotting along with us and taking a big interest in all that was happening around him. He walked home under his own steam and after a dinner of sardines is passed out on the couch. It's hard to think he is the same dog that we met earlier today!
On the way to the vets
Just finding his feet
Paying catch-up with Sid and Todd
The end of a long day
Please let Debbie know he is OK :thanks:

Thanks from Cody for the good wishes. He had a good long night asleep on the couch in the living room, clean through the night and has had a couple of short walks in the square this morning. He has eaten a small breakfast, after a big dinner of sardines last night and I will try him with an egg a bit later this morning to see if that will interest him. Right now he is asleep next to me on the couch wrapped up in a blanket all warm and toasty.
Even though he is under the weather his lovely terrier personality is there along with his love of being around people. He is so affectionate and just the nicest little dog you could wish for.
